What this machine is
A Shantui SD16, a crawler bulldozer weighing 16,400 to 17,000 kg. It runs either a Weichai WD10G178E25 or a Shangchai C6121 engine, at 120 kW (160 hp) or 131 kW (175 hp).
The blade comes at 3.2 m³ or 4.8 m³. Track shoes come at 510, 560 or 610 mm wide, and the machine clears the ground by 400 mm. Overall it is 5.14 × 3.455 × 3.032 m, which is 54 m³ on the vessel.
What it is used for
Land clearing. Pushing out bush, stumps and scrub for farms, plantations and new settlements.
Farm development. Levelling fields, building contour banks, cutting access tracks and shaping dams for water storage.
Road formation. Opening the route for a new rural road and pushing up the first layers of fill before the grader and the roller take over.
Stockpiles and landfill. Pushing and spreading material at quarries, plants and waste sites.
The size that opens up the land
A 16-tonne dozer is big enough to push over trees and move serious volumes of soil, and small enough to move on a standard low-bed and to work on a farm without tearing it up. That combination is why the SD16 class is a common sight on African farms and rural road jobs.
Shantui, and the Komatsu lineage. Shantui began building bulldozers under a Komatsu technology licence, and its dozers still follow that design. Shantui now builds more bulldozers than any other maker in China. Mechanics across Africa know the machine, and parts for it are stocked widely.
Pick the shoes for your ground. A dozer on the wrong track shoes either sinks or slips. The three widths exist because the ground differs so much from one job to the next: 610 mm for soft, wet soil, 510 mm for hard and rocky ground, 560 mm in between.
Pick the blade for the material. The 3.2 m³ blade is for heavy material and hard pushing. The 4.8 m³ blade carries more light material, like topsoil or cleared vegetation, on every pass.
Condition, and what we do before it ships
Through our own workshop before it loads, photographed stage by stage.
The undercarriage. On a dozer the tracks, rollers, idlers and sprockets are the largest part of the cost of keeping it running. Ask for close photographs and the wear figures.
The final drives. They carry all the power to the tracks. Leaks or noise there mean an expensive repair.
The blade and the ripper. Ask for photographs of the cutting edge, the end bits and the ripper tips.

What to tell us
The job: clearing, farm work, roads. The ground: soft, mixed or rocky. The blade you need and whether you want a ripper. Your destination port and the quantity.
Questions buyers ask about this machine
Why are there two engines and two power figures?
The SD16 is built with either a Weichai WD10G178E25 or a Shangchai C6121 engine, rated at 120 kW (160 hp) or 131 kW (175 hp). Both are common in Africa. We confirm which engine the machine you are buying carries and send the plate.
Which track shoe width do I need?
Wider shoes spread the weight for soft ground: swamp, black cotton soil, wet farmland. Narrower shoes grip better and wear less on rock and hard ground. The SD16 comes with 510, 560 or 610 mm shoes. Tell us your ground and we confirm what is fitted.
Is the SD16 big enough for road work?
For forming rural and feeder roads, clearing the route and pushing material, yes. For heavy cut work in rock or large dam and mine jobs, the SD22 has the weight and power the job needs.
What is the ripper for?
The shanks at the back break up hard ground, roots and soft rock so the blade can move it. Clearing land with tree stumps or working compacted ground without a ripper is slow and hard on the machine.
